Will Scott has worked with museum collections management databases since 1992. In over twenty years handling museum collections management and digitization projects, he has built unique expertise in the relationship between museums and their collections management databases, systems, and software.
Through employment as a Museum Consultant and Trainer at a major museum software vendor Will has seen, first-hand, the successes and struggles of museum digital collections management efforts. He worked extensively on-site with over twenty museums (ranging from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center to the Rhode Island School of Design), and off site with a client base of over two hundred collections-holding institutions.
His experience as a Collections Manager and Registrar supplement that background, offering a practical understanding of how museums operate, the role of staff responsibilities, and administrative concerns in collections database projects. Will’s background in collections management and museum registration include work at Field Museum (Anthropology Department), Indiana University Mathers Museum, Indiana University Art Museum, The Museum at The Fashion Institute of Technology, and California Center for the Arts.
Scott has provided specialized consulting services to museums and businesses since 2002. Clients include: University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (State University of New York).
